A quieter (than normal) day but with a Guest Speaker!

This Wednesday was a tad quieter than most Shed days – very little in the way of machinery!! With 4 or 5 regulars away at the mo, it was a different kind of Shed day. Steve brought in his broken fork – yes, it truly needed a new fork handle. Ernie & Alan had a go at digging out the old rivets and now all we need is a piece of wood and then to machine it to size . . . with no lathe expert around, we decided to leave it for another time. Meanwhile Andy from The Poppy Factory came and gave us a talk on what exactly is the Poppy factory and what it does.

Andy from The Poppy Factory gave us a very interesting talk & discussion on what he does – yes, this factory in Richmond (London) does still make poppies – it was set up in 1922 to give veterans from WW1 a job. It still does this but it’s main role is to provide support for all veterans and their families – both physically and mentally. It’s a big job and even more demanding with cases of hardship, homelessness and PTSD more prevalent now than ever. It certainly gives you a new perspective on buying that little poppy – we now know where the money goes! They have a new scheme of Navigators – individuals who help & link these people up to the right help. Click on the link above or image below to find out more . . . .
